Bob Dylan wins the Nobel Price for literature ... and I am simply gobsmacked (story)! In recent years that particular Nobel seemed to have gone strictly to authors whose work either I couldn't understand or couldn't bear reading. Looking it up, I see that the last time the prize went to an author I actually enjoyed was in 1970, when Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn won it. I cannot remember ever being so delighted at the Nobel Committee's choice for a winner of any of the prizes...
Of all the music I listen too, two songwriters stand out for their poetic lyrics: Bob Dylan and (in her early work) Joni Mitchell. Dylan's body of work is far larger, though...
