Paradise ponders... We had a nice meal for the holiday yesterday: the best burgers I could figure out how to whip up. For the buns we had Macey's onion-and-cheese rolls, which we've been enjoying for some time now. The burger was ground choice sirloin, about as good as burger gets. Add ripe beefsteak tomato, extra sharp cheddar cheese melted over the burger, ketchup, Duke's mayo, lettuce, and Bermuda onion, and you've got quite a feast. Later we had an ice cream soda made with Aggie's chocolate almond ice cream. That was some fine eating!
Today we have a guest arriving: Jo B., who hails from Poland. We've never actually met Jo before, nor have we ever spoken with her. I've played nearly 300 games of Scrabble with her, though (all over the Internet). She's a friend and business partner of my sister Holly, an a professor of math and programming. Jo and Holly have exchanged visits before, hugely enjoyed by both. We're looking forward to showing Jo a bit of rural and small town America. She'll be flying here this afternoon from a visit with relatives in San Francisco. The culture in San Francisco is about as far from the culture here as you can possibly get in America – it will be interesting to see if Jo picks up on that, and if so, how she reacts...
