I found several things of interest on here. The political geography has a number of changes from current times: today's Sri Lanka was then Ceylon, the Middle East is almost entirely different, etc. The small number of routes is of course striking. Also interesting to see was the prominence of islands on the trans-oceanic routes: Fiji, Mauritius, the Azores, Hawai'i, etc. all played key roles as refueling stops, because the aircraft of the day couldn't make it across the longer stretches of ocean on one tank...
