Sonar Has Come a Long, Long Way...

The image at right, of a sunken Russian submarine, was made entirely with sonar data.  Thirty five years ago, when I was in the Navy, we'd be lucky if we could detect the submarine at all.  Now it looks like we could inspect their latest repairs!
