A U.S. Marine squad was marching north of Fallujah when they came upon an Iraqi terrorist, badly injured and unconscious. On the opposite side of the road was an American Marine in a similar but less serious state. The Marine was conscious and alert and as first aid was given to both men, the squad leader asked the injured Marine what had happened.I'm sure this didn't really happen, but it's a good chuckle…
The Marine reported, "I was heavily armed and moving north along the highway here, and coming south was a heavily armed insurgent. We saw each other and both took cover in the ditches along the road. I yelled to him that Saddam Hussein was a miserable, lowlife scumbag who got what he deserved, and he yelled back that Ted Kennedy is a fat, good-for-nothing, left wing liberal drunk who doesn't know how to drive. Then I said that Osama Bin Ladin dresses and acts like a frigid, mean-spirited lesbian! He retaliated by yelling, "Oh yeah? Well, so does Hillary Clinton!" "And, there we were, in the middle of the road, shaking hands, when a truck hit us.

I can see how on first glance someone would think this is funny. But its making fun out of a very serious issue. People are dying. American soldiers and Iraqis. The US government is spending a ton of money and getting nowhere. And here you are making partisan and offensive jokes out of the situation. I've read your blog off and on for a couple of years. Sometimes it is insightful and worth reading (even though my political opinions are very far off from yours) but when you post stuff like this it makes me think that you'd rather poke fun at "liberals" (and lesbians apparently) and polarize the issues further. If people with differing political opinions belittle each other with worthless jokes like this, what hope is there for us to ever get along and effect change?
ReplyDeleteWhat hope, indeed. Virtually ALL humor is "politically incorrect" to some group or other, providing some way for someone to be offended. When humor is sacrificed on the altar of political correctness, then I do indeed have to wonder what hope there is...
ReplyDeleteThe standard liberal mindset that there exist "correct" and "incorrect" (or "acceptable" and "unacceptable") speech is in full display in your comment. I reject that notion -- you and I are free to say whatever we want to, so long as we don't cause some clear and present public danger (like yelling "fire" in a crowded auditorium). You're free to offend me by writing about your favorite liberal topics, and I'm free to offend you with posts like this. Thank heavens!
And of course, if you don't like that, you're always free to vote with your mouse and click on some other blog you find more palatable...
